Our ward, (congregation at church) had an activity at Far West, MO and Adam-ondi-Ahman (these are historical sights from when our church was first organized), so we drove up I-35 to Far West this morning. The steamy hot day I was expecting turned out to be quite nice with just a few sprinkles. It was wonderful to learn the history of that place; when you come upon it, it doesn't seem like too much, just some very green grass and nicely grown trees, a large black fence and a small building. But inside the black fence are four cornerstones, for a temple, that had been laid in the 1830s when hardly any of the members had any money and most of them soon were without their homes. Hearing the stories of the leaders, whose lives were in constant danger from mobs, and of the early members of our church, was very touching. That they would go through so much for their faith was pretty amazing.
We had to skip out on the Adam-ondi-Ahman part though. After Far West, we went to visit family. Trevor and Mandy had invited us to her mother's house for gun shooting,

four wheeling,

egg gathering, strawberry picking,

and ice cream making,

not to mention a delicious meal off the grill. We even got to hear stories from Mandy's grandfather who had served in World War II. Elise's favorite part was Little Brown, the really nice hen that kept letting her pick it up and feed it and pet it....Max's favorite part was playing with his cousin, though he did like the four wheeling with Reed as the driver and Max hanging on the back. As you can see it was a very full day and by the time we got home around 6:00pm, the kids were so tired, they could hardly eat dinner.
